A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being – Oxford English Dictionary.
Discovered in Japan by Mikao Usui in 1922 – after a life full of struggles, at the age of 57 he found the enlightenment he sought, including the capacity to heal. He wanted to share his knowledge for all to benefit and thus developed his method.
Passing away in 1926 it is his students that reached Master Level that kept it alive and made it grow. From Japan to USA and then into the rest of the world.

The word Reiki is of Japanese origin and can be translated as spiritual energy (most common translation) or divine energy, universal energy, life force energy.

- Rei means spirit, divine source
- Ki means energy, universal energy, life force energy
The traditional Japanese writing, is made up of kanjis, which for us westerners are symbols, which each of them make up words. Thus Reiki is a word made up of two symbols (kanjis).
